Secret Whispers came from a moment that really stayed with me.

One day, I was looking out of my window when I noticed two badgers quietly moving through the garden. A neighbour had mentioned before that we might have badgers nearby, but I honestly couldn’t imagine seeing such wonderful creatures in the middle of a housing estate.

But there they were.

It felt like I’d been let in on a little secret.

They were playful, curious, and completely at home, just getting on with their lives. Watching them made me smile. It reminded me how much goes on around us that we don’t always notice.

Badgers are known for being quite shy, so seeing them like that felt really special. It made me think about how nature lives alongside us in quiet ways, even when we’re busy and distracted.

I painted this piece over sixteen years ago, inspired by that moment and that feeling of being lucky enough to witness something gentle and unexpected.

To me, Secret Whispers is about connection between two animals, between us and nature, and between all the small moments that make life feel rich and meaningful.
