Solitude

I had a week that wore me down. Nothing dramatic, just the kind of accumulation that makes everything feel heavier than it should. So I drove to the coast. I stood near the cliffs and I did not do anything in particular. I just let the space be large around me.

This piece came from that afternoon. The cliffs felt solid and old in a way that made my own week feel very small. The sea was quiet. The sky was the colour of something not quite resolved. I worked in blocks of colour, layering them slowly, letting the chalk white push through the cooler tones the way light finds its way through cloud.

I hope it offers you something of what that afternoon offered me. Not escape exactly. More like permission to breathe. To remember that solitude is not loneliness. It is something we sometimes need to find our way back to ourselves.
